GREENSBORO, NC -- This has to stop. WGHP's Cindy Farmer just reported on air that "hundreds of students got into several fights" in downtown Greensboro on Saturday. Her co-anchor, Brad Jones called it a "massive brawl."
Absolutely zero evidence has been provided to substantiate the claim that hundreds of students were involved in fighting and WGHP's insistence on fact-free hyperbole in describing what happened is downright irresponsible. It is bringing undeserved national attention to Greensboro and it has now made liars of Jones and Farmer.
WGHP needs to provide substance to back up their claims or correct themselves. If hundreds of people were fighting, prove it. If not, stop saying so.
It is the TRUTH. It happened right before my eyes and about 10 feet in front of me and we have several minutes of video evidence AND angles with proof.

ReplyDeleteThank you Brutarius. We are not saying "This did not happen," we are saying there is no evidence it did in the way that it is being described and some evidence ("11 arrests for fighting" not backed up by public records) that it is being exaggerated.
ReplyDeleteSo, if hundred of kids were fighting, just share with your audience how you know that -- convince us. But don't just keep repeating it without proof.
Video evidence of a crime should be subject to an information request....but probably not for quite a while if ever....taped evidence no one sees is worthless

Has WGHP backed down and admitted exageration and hyperbole ? Perhaps they could defend that reporting here.
Who planned this event? (Spiderman movie ) which may have been a causative factor for whatever occurred. And was the city properly prepared for this possibility ?
As for the Utes, I don't think anybody is holding them out as angels

ARRESTS IN DOWNTOWN VIOLENCE
11 Greensboro residents were charged in the incident:
• Demarko Lavar Ford, 16, of 813 Franklin Blvd., public disturbance and affray.
• Bronte Monteze Whittaker, 18, of 2303-C Phillips Ave., public disturbance; affray; resist delay or obstruct a law enforcement officer; and disorderly conduct.
• Dajour Unique Mccollum, 17, of 3303-B Beck St., assault on a law enforcement officer; resist delay or obstruct a law enforcement officer; and public disturbance.
• Raheem Jahata Gales, 18, of 4302 Southern Webbing Mill Road, affray and public disturbance.
• Neal Raheem McAuley, 17, of 3108 Hayden St., affray and public disturbance.
• Montrel Diate Cunningham, 17, of 1200 Summit Ave., affray and public disturbance.
• Favour Chimdindu Chukwu, 17, of 18 Rocky Ridge Point, disorderly conduct.
• Clifton Hakeem Ford, 17, of 405 Franklin Blvd., assault on a law enforcement officer; misdemeanor possession of marijuana; and resist delay or obstruct a law enforcement officer.
• Abdoulaye Badiane, 20, of 517 Oferrell St., public disturbance; simple assault; and resist delay or obstruct a law enforcement officer.
• Trevon Lamar Bullard, 17, of 704-A Sparta Drive, simple assault and public disturbance.
• Jerry Carter, 18, of 5328-27E W. Market St., rioting and damage to real property.
Greensboro Police publicly refuted WGHP's account, saying that there were a serious of small fights over an eight hour period and involving a dozen people total. WGHP lied.
