Shutter Island: Recommended

I watched Shutter Island last night. Directed by Martin Scorsese, it stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Kingsley along with a strong cast of supporting actors. The trailers I saw made it look like some kind of hokey ghost story. It is not.

It is, however, hard to describe in much detail without giving away too much. I'll say this: it is a thrilling exploration of how reality is defined by our intentional and involuntary perceptions, told through masterful exploitation of modern archetypes with a plot twist that plays beautifully and with brilliant effect on the expectations of American movie goers. I recommend it.
