A shilling for some shillin'?

At Ed Cone's "content worth paying for" is the key to newsorgs getting people to pay for online content. This News & Record article is not it. The 900 words of the article about possible government incentives for Honda Aircraft, are studded with assertions attributed to unnamed "officials," statements of fact unattributed to any source and the wonderfully deceptive passive voice, like this:

The manufacturing component, which could employ more than 370 people, has been called “the biggest prize” in terms of job creation.

Who said that? 

Here's what a community college website says about this technique of "reporting" something having been said or done by someone without saying who said or did it. 

We find an overabundance of the passive voice in sentences created by self-protective business interests, magniloquent educators, and bombastic military writers (who must get weary of this accusation), who use the passive voice to avoid responsibility for actions taken.

If the News & Record is pinning its future to customers paying for its content, management would be wise to advise their reporters and editors that empty-headed cheerleader puff pieces like this are not of any value. They are insulting, frankly, to anyone with half a brain.
