Bing is better

Google used to be my go-to search engine. Then they changed their search algorithm this spring. One of the changes involves ranking results from what Google determines to be "authoritative" sites higher. That is not only contrary to one of the great promises of the internet--that individuals and small enterprises could equally compete with corporate and government gatekeepers--but it has truly just made their search results less relevant. Bing is better.

  1. I felt the same way after Panda, but I've capitulated... I'm moving forward... (if you haven't noticed)... and trying to conform to Google's new set of rules. Honestly, I think in the broad spectrum of things, Bing is winning the search engine war, as it's closer to the old Google... the diverse Google. Time will tell, but I find it ironic that Google changed to beat Bing, and may have lost what was important to begin with.

  2. Live, right -- and thanks for reminding me the Google update scheme was called Panda, that had escaped me.

  3. Just to add, one of the things I notice is that out-of-date articles from "authoritative" sources will rank higher on Google than current articles from lesser known sources.

  6. I've switched to Bing as well. It is what Google used to be. Okay, so Bing isn't what Google used to be but it's closer than Google.

I've also noticed in my logs that Bing refers me as much traffic as Google and is gaining ground very quickly.

Reminds me of the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
