Wrong.Very wrong. Correction coming? I wouldn't hold my breath, WFMY has a long reputation for allowing its viewers to remain misinformed when a mistake is discovered.
You make a great point. It's bad enough to publish the error on their website, but they also broadcast it. Hilariously, they are so regularly mistaken that this one was actually predictable. Then, when the city manager's doc upon which the report was based appeared at Wordup, and I pointed out the error at digtriad last night, they still haven't corrected it.

Well, yes, they were wrong on air and online. The point of a correction, in my opinion, should not be to meet some technicality, but to exert the same effort to properly inform their viewers as was delivered to convey the initial misinformation.
ReplyDeleteRoch thank you for your media critique. In my opinion, we need a lot more of this watchdog-type activity. Once upon a time, every daily newspaper had a media critic. Holding the TV reporting, radio formatting and even newspaper reporting accountable seems to be falling by the wayside.
