One of Ayn Rand's central themes in "Atlas Shrugged" is that adherence to reason is the highest measure of human life. As several of her characters explain and illustrate, if your "thinking" has you maintaining contradictory propositions, then one of your premises is wrong. "A is A," as she writes; A cannot be A at one moment then B at another.
Medicare is government health insurance. So, if you insist that you are against government health insurance and then use Medicare as an example of a good alternative to government health care, you are engaged in the very broken thinking that Ayn Rand described as despicable and dangerous. You are abandoning your mind.
I haven't finished "Atlas Shrugged" yet, so I do not know if reason wins or if the world falls to the mindless mystics. In our current health care debate, it is abundantly clear where reason is being abandoned.
