The problem with WFMY's reportage of the police department is that it was untethered from the facts. Freed from any concern for the truth, they presented implications, verbal and visual, that created a false impression. It was not reporting, it was sensationalism and the impression it created would quickly find itself at odds with the facts should the reporter or producer have bothered with them.
And that's it: Bad reporting.
That others found it to be some kind of confirmation of their paranoid racist fantasies is a result of their own misunderstandings and prejudices. Lest there be any confusion, I do not share their bigoted suspicions or assertions.
WFMY used to be the news leader, they lost their way with their coverage of the David Wray / Mitch Johnson events. As a result, their lock on First Place was broken. People from Greensboro tried watching Winston-Salem and High Point news stations. Some liked what they saw. Others just quit watching.
ReplyDeleteRoch,
ReplyDeleteYou called them out . Good. Now if you know who is ultimately responsible for not filtering this crap they present as news. How about taking you tape recorder and doing a podcast with the GM at WFMY or Sandra Hughes.
Thanks...Fred Gregory
