Joe Guarino brings to our attention this morning, a filing by the Greensboro city attorney seeking to block disclosure of your correspondence, including:
"...email and text messages, from any other member of the Greensboro City Council and Roy Carrol concerning Kotis Properties, Inc. Marty Kotis, Horspen Village Commercial, LLC, this lawsuit or any matters pending before the Greensboro City Council."As you may be aware, governmental transparency is an important local issue to me, especially as it relates to access to public documents and Greensboro's overuse of the legal department to stifle transparency. I am wondering, did you support this effort by the City Attorney on your behalf? Can you explain how it benefited the public you were elected to serve?

ReplyDeleteThere has been a lot of discussion lately about transparency, ethics and officials with financial interests that create conflicts of interest. During the campaign, Nancy Vaughan was promoting disclosures similar to what state officials or board members have to provide. City and County elected officials could solve much of the problem by completing the Statements of Economic Interest Long Form: http://www.ethicscommission.nc.gov/secoi.htm
