More disorientation at the News & Record

Wouldn't it be nice if the News & Record accurately understood the geography of our hometown? In an article examining burglaries in Greensboro's "eastern side," reporters Mike Kernels and Dioni L. Wise describe the area as:
From roughly Lee Street north to West Cone Boulevard...
Which includes downtown, Fisher Park, Irving Park and Kirkwood, which are empirically not "eastern" Greensboro. So now readers throw up their hands and shrug, "Well, who the hell knows what they are talking about." (Previous inability to read a map.)

  1. East of Elm should suffice.........

  2. Don't forget Latham Park in that area -- not east.

  4. The local writers focus of Fec's criticism was, to me, a symptom of the larger problem Fec alluded to in the quote above. In short, the strengths and weaknesses are valued backwards.
