1 hour, 40 minutes to early vote
Just got a call from mom and dad who went to early vote this morning at the old courthouse. They report lines around the block, with an hour and forty minutes in line. They said they heard state senate candidate Don Vaughan (running against Joe Wilson) on the phone with the Board of Elections trying to convince them to set up more than the ten voting machines currently available.

ReplyDeleteYes, one hour and 45 minutes to be exact--and the mood was cordial, even jovial, except for one lady we talked to on the street corner after voting who was convinced that, with that many people voting early, there had to be voter fraud!!?? In fact, voting officials followed the rules to the letter, asking for your last name and address and checking that information against the list of registerd voters. The lady on the corner asked whether we were asked for an ID. We were not but, as far as I know, that is not a requirement in NC.
ReplyDeleteWe saw two poll watchers there and neither one raised any objection over the procedure the poll workers were using. As for us, we appreciated the ethnic and apparent economic diversity of the people in line waiting so long to vote. We saw it as democracy at its best!
