When I was little and wouldn't listen to my Grandfather's advice (hold the hammer this way, stop teasing your brother, try some kielbasa), he'd dismiss me with a wave of his hand and what sounded like, "Spitanya."
In context, I always assumed it meant something like, "Forget it," or "Have it your way." I thought it was from his Polish heritage or my Grandmother's Italian.
But I cannot find the word or any possible alternate spellings in any language (thank you Google). The closest I've come is the Italian "speranza," but that means "hope," and that doesn't fit.
