...front-paged twaddle in yesterday's [News & Record] edition about Kay Hagan replacing Joe Biden as Obama's 2012 VP, which was sourced to a single blogger, who provided zero evidence for the claim beyond, um, North Carolina will be important in the presidential race, and Kay's alleged awesomeness in beating the ripe-for-defeat Liddy Dole.
I don't have anything to do with where these stories get played and I'm sure the fact that it was a news story rather than an Inside Scoop item probably had something to do with Mark Binker being on vacation...but I think that lighter stories like these actually do serve an important purpose.

It's: "Well, some people are talking about this. How legit/bogus is it, and what do we know?"
There's an important role for a newspaper to play when people are discussing something like this. If you read the story it's done pretty lightly and it's pretty easy to tell once you've gotten into it that yeah, there's little to no chance it's going to happen. But it's worth asking Hagan's office to deny it if they're going to and acknowledge it's a rumor that's floating about.
