From the article:
"Only Florida has succeeded in eliminating teacher tenure protections, according to the Education Commission of the States.""Join states" sounds like we are part of a crowd, a trend — a movement. A more accurate headline would have reflected just what the article reported, that North Carolina's "plan" would make us exceptionally unappealing for teachers.
Doesn't say 'having ended'.

What NWC said. I'll grant the headline is unclear, but it's *so* unclear that one cannot conclusively say it's flat wrong, because it can be read in multiple ways.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying it's wrong. I'm saying it's inexcusable in that it contradicts the content of the article.
ReplyDeleteIf there are other states attempting to end tenure, then "N.C. joins states attempting to end tenure," would be accurate, but that also would not describe the content of the article as the article makes no mention of other states attempting to end tenure. So, no. There is no excuse for a headline that contradicts the article.
