GREENSBORO, NC -- Dick Barron of the News & Record reports that Time Warner Cable (TWC) and Sinclair Broadcast Group (SBGI) have been unable to negotiate a contract that would keep WXLV, the local ABC affiliate, and sister station WMYV on TWC's local cable lineup.
I'm no apologist for Time Warner Cable, their Road Runner internet service has been degrading in quality, performing far below advertised speeds; I'm tired of the dance we have to do every year where they raise my rates and I have to plead with a "retention specialist" to get them back down to a sane price; and they've earned plenty of lingering ill will from when they tried to make Greensboro one of their experimental markets for metered internet usage fees. Should my discussions next month with the "retention specialist" not be resolved satisfactorily, I won't continue as a Time Warner Cable customer.
For now, I remain a customer though and if one of the excuses Time Warner Cable has for trying to raise rates is that its content providers are charging more I would rather they keep costs down and drop WXLV and WMYV from the lineup.
The two shows the Sinclair stations offer in which I have any interest, The Office and Entourage, are also available on other channels and online. The rest is a bunch of crap targeted to the dumbest of trailer park morons. Family Feud? The People's Court? Jerry Springer? Dancing with the Stars? Who cares? They also are the only network-affiliated local station that has no local news. I would not miss them a bit if they disappeared from local cable; and if their absence makes it a little easier for me to negotiate my rates with Time Warner Cable back to normal, all the better.

Ditto. Meanwhile AT&T is working fiendishly to rollout U-Verse.
So, because some of us have tastes different from yours, we are the "dumbest of all trailer park morons."
And you sit on your high throne and chastize other bloggers/commentors/people for using a broad brush to paint people with.
Ummmm...okay. I see how you think now.
Yes, that's exactly right. Not all things are equal and the shows I mentioned are the bottom of the barrel. But if you want to make the case for their superiority, please proceed. You don't even have to use your name.
Two shows on ABC that I really enjoy are "The Middle" and "Modern Family." Both shows are very funny, well written and contain no canned laugh track. I'd hate to miss those two shows.
Thanks for commenting, John.
Know it's an old post but I have a simple solution to all these cable TV vs local tv station rebroadcast contrast "issues". Get a good outdoor TV antenna if you can. There's the one time outlay, yes. With a little knowledge and selection of the right antenna you can get all the general locals TWC carry, the sub-channels, channels that TWC won't include (WGSR), and dependent on location some out of area channels too. Main channels in HD, the extra in standard def. No extra charges. If you are getting basic broadcast cable from TWC then you're flushing $10 a month down the toilet!
